Firm History Back to Top

Burlington International Airport
Burlington International Airport, 1971

The firm was established in 1964 under the name J. Henderson Barr.  Barr’s associate, Dick Wiemann, then took over the practice after J.H. Barr returned to Connecticut in the late sixties.  At that time, the name was changed to Richard H. Wiemann Architect.

In 1971 James Lamphere joined Richard and the name was changed to Wiemann Lamphere Architects.  The two   were   successful   in   building  a   substantial practice, reaching a total of 35 personnel at its peak and becoming a leader in the design community in and around Vermont.

By 1985 the next generation of partners had been established with the offering of a partnership to Gary Lavigne,  a  native  Vermonter  with  professional experience in the Boston area, and then Dennis B. Webster, a graduate of Colgate University who had joined  the   firm   in   1979   after  practicing in Ohio.

Richard and Jim went on to retire in the early 1990’s.  In  1994,  David  P. Roy  joined  the firm  as an intern
architect. David, a native Vermonter educated at Vermont  Technical  College  and  Kansas  State University, did his internship in the Kansas City area prior to returning to Vermont.  David was offered a partnership  in  2001  in hopes  of  creating  the  next generation of Wiemann Lamphere Architects.
